Obituary for Barbara L. Alford
Mrs. Barbara L. Alford, 93, of Quincy, formerly of Barry, Illinois, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, February 1, 2015, at St.Vincent's Home in Quincy, Illinois. She was born September 14, 1921, at home in Pleasant Vale Township, Pike County, Illinois, to Clarence & Effie (Siebers) Kinne. They preceded her in death. She married George W. Alford on September 14, 1939, in Eolia, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1997. She is survived by 2 sons: Dallas Alford & companion Carol Florea of Quincy, Illinois and Kent Alford & wife Joyce of Quincy, Illinois. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Debora Deakin & husband Greg of Cuba, Illinois; Douglas Alford & wife Christina of Pleasant Hill, Illinois; Diane Toapanta & husband Marco of Parkville, Missouri; Kayleen Carlson & husband Joshua of Quincy, Illinois; and Kolette Alford & friend Aaron Roth of Liberty, Illinois. Also surviving are 6 great grandsons: Colin Deakin of Cuba, Illinois; Dante & Andre Toapanta of Parkville, Missouri; Erik & Elijah Carlson of Quincy, Illinois; and Kason Roth of Liberty, Illinois; and 3 great granddaughters: Paige Del Toro & husband Micah of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Tiffany Deakin of Cuba, Illinois; and Kate Carlson of Quincy, Illinois. Barbara was a 1939 graduate of New Canton High School. She was a member of the Barry United Methodist Church and the Modern Mary's, Pike County Home Extension and a past member of the Rebecca Lodge. She loved reading, gardening and history. She really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Barry, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the Barry United Methodist Church Building and Maintenance Fund.
