Obituary for Carol May Crump
Mrs. Carol May Crump, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Anamosa, died Sunday, October 26, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Carol May Kraft was born March 8, 1923, in Quincy, Illinois, the third child of Jacob & Florence (Langebartel) Kraft. Her mother was taken there by horse drawn wagon from a farm near Payson, Illinois. She married A. W. "Bill" Crump on September 28, 1947, in Quincy, Illinois. She is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Crawford of Louisville, Kentucky and Rebecca (Toby) Joseph of West Des Moines; 2 sons, Alan (Rebecca) Crump of Rowley and Richard (Susan) Crump of Anamosa; and 1 brother, Richard Kraft of Delaware. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and her husband, Albert "Bill" on December 2, 2011. Carol grew up milking cows and shucking corn by hand. She enjoyed attending school and went from a one-room school house to Quincy High School, where she graduated in 1940, fourth in a class of 345. She had many fond memories growing up including, snow sledding on the hill behind their house and most memorable was the safe return of her brother, Richard, from World War II, after flying 50 missions and receiving three Purple Hearts. Carol was a 59 year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and their Women's Circle and was an avid bridge player. The most interesting person she ever met was her husband, Bill. A memorial service celebrating Carol's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa, where friends may call after 1:15 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Inurnment will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorial are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Camp Courageous, St. Luke's Hospice or the donor's charity of choice. Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry in charge of local arrangements.
