Obituary for "Kelly"

Mrs. Carol “Kelly” Rae McNeill Hazelrigg Syrcle, 91, of Barry, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023, at her son's home in Griggsville.


Kelly was born in Centralia, IL, on February 12, 1932, to Malcom & Jewell (Moore) McNeill. They preceded her in death.


Kelly married Alden Hazelrigg in 1950 and they had four children. In 1959 Alden passed away. After Alden passed away Kelly and her children moved to town from the farm where she ran a hair salon from her home and raised her children.


In 1976, she married J. H. Syrcle and moved to the farm and they raised and showed Tennessee Walking horses. She won many trophies throughout the years, including 1st in state. J. H. passed away in 2016.


Kelly is survived by her two son's Rick (Rhonda) Hazelrigg and Chuck (Paula) Hazelrigg, daughter-in-law Debbie Hazelrigg, step-son's, Reginald (Susan) Syrcle and Richard (Linda) Syrcle, brother Mike (Barbara) Sanders, sister-in-laws, Maxine McNeill, Wathena Stover and Judy Harvey, numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husbands Alden and J. H., son Wayne Hazelrigg, daughter Nedla Liggett, step-father Dwight Sanders, her mother Jewell Sanders, her father Malcolm McNeill, brother Virgil McNeill, and two grandson's.


Kelly graduated from Centralia High School. She attended Quincy Beauty Academy.


Kelly was very active in her community. She loved working at the Barry Apple Festival and making apple dumplings and apple pies. She was very proud of her white jacket she won for best apple pie. She had been one of the chairmen of the Apple Dumplin Inn for many years.


She was a member of the Barry Methodist Church. Kelly served on the election board for many years. She also served on the fair board for Pleasant Hill for many years.


Kelly loved to bake and share her baking goods. She made apple pies at the Apple Basket. Her cinnamon rolls, apple pies and apple dumplings were the best. She always wanted to host all the family holidays.


Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.


Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.


Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry.


Memorials are suggested to the Barry Methodist Church or the Barry Apple Festival.
