Obituary for Edith G. Oitker
Mrs. Edith G. Oitker, 90, of Barry, passed away at 8:28 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, in her home. She was born August 11. 1921, in Barry, Illinois, to George & Lula (Hinch) Eales. They preceded her in death. She married Joe E. Oitker on October 26, 1941, in Hannibal, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1997. She is survived by 8 grandchildren: Michael Joe Hanlin & wife Erin of Barry, and Roger Dale Hanlin & wife Tammy of Barry, both raised in the home; Lonnita Gayle Hoskins & husband Mark; Sherry Hively & husband Mike; Kimberly Ash & husband Bryan; Mark Oitker & wife Wendi; Eric Oitker & wife Ali, all of Barry; and Tad Oitker & companion Sally Stolte of Golden, Colorado. She is also survived by 22 great grandchildren: Destiny Hanlin of St. Louis, Mo.; Ala Hanlin, Ben Hanlin, Nick Hanlin & wife Lindsey & Levi Hanlin, all of Barry; Stacy McMullen & husband Tony, & Serena Brown & husband Zach, both of New Canton; Sterling Hanlin, Alex Hoskins, Derek Hoskins, & Erica Hoskins, all of Barry; Shawna Sell & husband Jeff of Katy Texas; Lucas Hively, Carlee Joe Hively, Paige Malone, Lonita Ash, & Denver Ash, all of Barry; Brett Paxton & Paige Paxton, both of Quincy; Emma Oitker, Samuel Oitker & Macy Oitker, all of Barry; and 6 great great grandchildren: Edhan Roskin of St. Louis, Mo.; Brooklynn White, Rachel McMullen, Alexis McMullen & Mia Brown all of New Canton; and Morgan Sell of Katy Texas. Also surviving are 1 brother, Lorraine Eales of Florida; 4 sisters, Dorothy Kaufman of Girard, Ill.; Erma Garner & Gloria Goodwin both of Canton, Ill. and Georgetta Hutmacher of Springfield, Ill.; 1 son-in-law, Lonnie Wright of Barry and 1 daughter-in-law Carol Oitker of Quincy, Ill. She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Sherry Kay Hanlin and Anita G. Wright; 1 son, Terry Joe Oitker; 1 infant grandson, Trent E. Wright; 1 brother, Lorne Eales and 3 sisters, Bertha Hardy, Edna Brownlee and Aileen Likes. Edith enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, gardening and raising her family. Her home was always full of people and good food. She owned and operated Oitker's Cafe through the late 60's and was known for her amazing burgers, chili and famous sloppy joes. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials are suggested to the Barry Swimming Pool.
