Obituary for Edith Mae Brace
Mrs. Edith Mae Brace, 82, of Barry, Illinois, passed away at 12:11 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry. She was born August 22, 1932, in Moberly, Missouri, to Auris Martin & Joye Dove (DuVall) McGee. They preceded her in death. She married James E. Brace on June 15, 1952, in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1996. She is survived by 1 son - James E. (Jay) Brace, wife Laurie, of Barry; 3 daughters - Linda Bessling of Quincy; Jane Ralph, husband Bob, of Barry and Lori Wharton of Barry. She is also survived by 4 grandsons - Kevin Bessling of Quincy; Kraig Bessling of Quincy; Zach Ralph, wife Megan, of Bowling Green, Missouri and Connor Wharton of Quincy; 7 granddaughters - Krista Goodwin, husband J. D. of Quincy; Kim McNelly, husband Dan of Mundelien, Illinois; Kate Patarozzi, husband Bruce of Springfield, Illinois; Lucy Brace of St. Louis, Missouri; Jayme Brace of Terre Haute, Indiana; Taylor Wharton of Glenwood, Iowa and Paige Wharton of Barry, Illinois; 7 great grandchildren and 2 sisters-in-law, Joan McGee of Quincy, Illinois and Pat Belker of Quincy, Illinois. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Auris, C. A. and Glen McGee; 1 sister Bettie Moss; 1 daughter Lois Ann Brace; 1 grandson Tanner Wharton and 1 son-in-law Jack Bessling. Edith worked for Bell Telephone Company for several years. She also worked in the Barry School Cafeteria for 20 years where she was known as a lunch lady. Edith was a huge sports fan and received a Spirit Award for attending school sporting events. She made sure that Sundays were her day to cook for her family. But even ahead of her work and sports, her family was her first priority. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2015, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2015, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials are suggested to the Barry Community Care Center Activity Fund.
