Obituary for Erma M. (Hopper) Rueb
Mrs. Erma M. (Hopper) Rueb, 86, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, July 10, 2017, at 9:45 a.m., with her family by her side at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Illinois.
Erma was born on March 9, 1931, in Kinderhook, Illinois, and was the daughter of William and Famie (Sackett) Hopper. They preceded her in death.
Erma married James A. Rueb on June 9, 1951, in Quincy, Illinois.
She is survived by her son Kirk Rueb and his wife Sherry of Hull, Ill., her daughter Brenda (Rueb) Desrochers and her husband Andrew of Franklin, NH; 3 grandchildren, Clifton Rueb of Hull, Ill, Christina Swango of Clarksville, TN and Amanda Firmino of Chandler, AZ; 2 great grandchildren, James Swango and River Song Rosalene Rueb; siblings, Ilah Risse of Hull, Ill. and Melvin Hopper of Quincy, Ill; and several nieces and nephews.
Erma was proceeded in death by her husband James and siblings, Maxine, Marjorie, Dava, Mary Ellen, Bill Jr. and Max.
In 1983, James and Erma took over the Country Inn Smorgasbord Restaurant in Hull, Illinois which they thoroughly enjoyed operating and made many lifelong friends in the process. The restaurant closed in 1993 just prior to the historic flood.
Erma and the late James Rueb were life members of the Kinderhook First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2017, at the United Baptist Church in Kinderhook, Ill.
Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery, Kinderhook, Illinois.
Memorials are suggested to the Barry Community Care Center activity fund.
