Obituary for Lucia Mae Arnold
Mrs. Lucia Mae Arnold, 93, of Barry, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at her home.
She was born November 29, 1922, in Hunnewell, Missouri, the only child of Henry Hollis and Anna Mae (O'Brien) Cox.
She married Earl Leroy Arnold on May 29, 1943, in Hannibal, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1999.
Surviving are her two sons, Ronald (Laurie) Arnold and Donald "Butch" (Pamela) Arnold, all of Barry; six grandchildren, Seth (Marianne) Arnold, Nikki (Barry) O'Dell, Patrick (Tina) Barns, Brien (Melissa) Arnold, Sean (Rosangela) Arnold, and Justen (Alexis) Arnold; 22 great grandchildren, her cousin Norma (O'Brien) Johnson, numerous nieces and nephews and her longtime companion Ray Taylor of Camp Point.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
She attended elementary school at Pee Dee school in rural Marion County, Missouri and graduated from Hannibal High School, class of 1940.
Lucia enjoyed a long life farming with her husband and also worked at Motorola for over 20 years. Lucia enjoyed and supported her community with a lifetime of service. She taught Sunday School at Barry Methodist Church for nearly 25 years, and spent years as a 4-H leader. She was active in the Barry Business Association. Her work with the Barry Apple Festival was especially enjoyable for her. She was very active in the Apple Festival for nearly all of the Festival's existence, managing the folk life area for years, helping to coordinate other Festival activities, and operating the apple butter covered wagon. She was the Apple Festival's "Golden Apple" winner in 2011 and Apple Festival parade marshal in 2005.
She enjoyed a variety of farming and agricultural activities, collecting antiques and dancing. She was a regular visitor to area auctions and a frequent participant at the weekly senior center dances.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Barry United Methodist Church in Barry.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Barry United Methodist Church in Barry.
Burial will be in Grandview Burial Park, Hannibal, Missouri.
Memorials are suggested to the Barry United Methodist Church.
