Obituary for Mr. Arthur L. Martin Jr.
Mr. Arthur L. Martin, Jr., 80, of Barry, died at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born April 24, 1932, in Barry, Illinois, a son of Arthur Sr. and Mary (Dehart) Martin. They preceded him in death. He married Betty Bainter on December 13, 1963, in Quincy, Illinois. She survives in Barry. He is also survived by 3 daughters: Rachel Liesen of Florida; Deanna Lange of Barry and Diana Logan (Chris) of Texas; 3 grandchildren: Luke Lange (Janet); Specialist Thomas Liesen II, U.S. Army; and Tyler Logan. Also surviving are 3 brothers: Earl Martin of Barry; Dale Martin of Athens; and Robert Martin (Mary Jo) of Peoria; 4 sisters: Nellie Martin of Quincy; Mary Lou Venertloh (Richard) of Quincy; Sally Gueswelle of Highland; and Thelma Martin of Barry; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Margaret (Martin) Handrich and a grandson Timothy Lange. Arthur worked for Electric Wheel until he went into the Navy for 4 years. Then he returned to Electric Wheel until he retired. He then worked at FS and other odd and end jobs. Arthur enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed the company of the Amish in the community, being outside on the porch with the cats and dogs and watching the hummingbirds and playing cards with his wife. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2012, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
