Obituary for Mrs. Edith Eldine (Dee) Megehe
Mrs. Edith Eldine (Dee) Megehe, 85, of the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, formerly of New Canton, passed peacefully into God's arms at 10:23 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2014. She was born on October 11, 1928, in the Quincy North Bottoms, a daughter of Orville Ellis & Edith Lillian Langford Wood. She married Joseph B. Heilwagen in December 1946, in Quincy. To this marriage two daughters were born. They later divorced. She married James R. Megehe on February 23, 1963, in East St. Louis. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2012. She is survived by 1 son, Tyler James Megehe & his wife Deborah of Cedar Park, Texas; 2 daughters - Judith Miller & her husband Jerry of Ursa, Illinois and Karen Bernard & her husband Jim of New Canton, Illinois; and 1 step daughter, Karla Long & her husband Larry of Lake St. Louis, Missouri. She is also survived by 6 grandsons - Jeff & Joe Miller of Ursa, Justin Bernard of New Canton, James Tyler Megehe of Cedar Park, Texas, Darek Long of Minnesota and Erik Long of Texas; 3 granddaughters - Jill Miller of Pittsfield, Yvonne Howe of St. Peters, Missouri, and Staci Harnen of Houston, Texas; 9 great grandsons - Jerod, Jacob, Connor, Jack, & T. J. Miller of Ursa, Lane Bernard of Palmyra and Henry & Frankie Howe of St. Peters, Missouri; 4 great granddaughters - Ashley Weeks of Mendon, Olivia Megehe of St. Peters, Missouri, Amber Miller of Ursa and Madison Bernard of Quincy; 1 great great grandson, Landon Weeks of Mendon; 2 great great granddaughters - Kaden Miller of Ursa and Natalie Weeks of Mendon and 1 due to arrive in October; 1 brother, Orville Wood & wife Charlene of Ursa and numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, 2 sisters, Stella Donaldson & Bernice Schmitt; and infant sister; 1 granddaughter, Amanda Megehe and 1 great grandson, Luke Miller. Dee attended Quincy schools. She worked for Davis Cleaver. In April 1973 she and Jim opened J & D Cafe in New Canton and operated it until retiring in 1991. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014, in the New Canton United Methodist Church in New Canton. Burial will be in Shearer Cemetery, New Canton, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the Barry Community Care Center activity fund.
