Obituary for Richard (Ike) Gene Oitker
Mr. Richard Gene (Ike) Oitker, 80, of Sherman, Illinois, formerly of Barry, passed away at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Regency Nursing Center, Springfield, Illinois.
He was born March 12, 1936, in Barry, Illinois, to Otis & Ina Rebecca (Woosley) Oitker. They preceded her in death.
He married Diane Greene on March 31, 1989, in Barry, Illinois. She survives in Sherman, Illinois.
In addition to his wife he is also survived by 1 daughter Stacy Sheff, husband Eric, of Farmer City, Illinois; 1 son Eliot Oitker of Mechanicsburg, Illinois; 1 step-son Jeffrey Capps, wife Kathy, of Rochester, Illinois; 1 step-daughter Leigh Ann Greer, husband Kenneth, of Bryan, Texas; 5 grandsons, Daniel Sheff of Urbana, Illinois; Matthew Sheff of Champaign, Illinois; Tristen Oitker of Mechanicsburg, Illinois; Ryne Oitker of New Mexico; and Patrick Capps of Ft. Worth Texas; 3 granddaughters, Nikki Stone of Bryan, Texas; Dana Trevino of Bryan, Texas; and Lauren Capps of St. Louis, Missouri; 2 great grandchildren, Rylee Puente of Bryan, Texas and Trinity Oitker of Mechanicsburg, Illinois; and 1 sister Myrtle Hart of Barry.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lewis (Babe) Oitker and Clifford (Bud) Oitker.
Ike graduated from Barry High School. He enjoyed camping, square dancing, and traveling and had a winter home in Texas for many years. Ike spent his life as an over the road truck driver and was retired. He was a member of Central States Union 916 and a member of the Barry First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2017, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry.
