It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald “Ron” Lee Squires, age 77, of Barry, IL, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL, surrounded by his family. He was a cherished father, grandfather, and friend whose presence will be missed.
He was born November 25, 1946, in Quincy, IL, to Lloyd & Margaret (Leindecker) Squires.
Ron will be dearly missed by his 2 daughters, Mandy (Kenny) Mellon, of Barry, IL, and Lyndsay (David) Smith of Barry, IL, 1 son, Ronnie Squires of Sparland, IL, 3 grandsons, Jacob, Gaven & Jaxsen, 3 granddaughters, Ashley, Chloe & Jolee, 3 great grandchildren, Aadyn, Kyler & Beatrice, 2 brothers, Michael Squires and Rick Squires, former spouse Mary Jo and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons Russell Squires and Ryan Squires, 2 brothers Paul Leindecker and Jerry Squires, and 1 sister Susan Wagy.
Ron proudly served his country as a Navy Veteran. Following his service, Ron worked and retired from Quincy Soybean where he formed many lasting friendships over the years.
Ron's greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy. He had a passion for cooking, was an avid reader, and loved sports. A devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, he also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Illinois basketball.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Ron's memory, may contribute memorials to the Barry American Legion Post 222.
