Obituary for Sylvia M. Furniss
Mrs. Sylvia M. Furniss, 95, of Barry, Illinois, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry. She was born on December 31, 1918, in Richfield, Adams County, Illiniois, to Clifford & Mary (Bliven) Brown. They preceded her in death. She married Loraine E. Furniss on March 14, 1938, in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2002. She is survived by 4 sons - Carl Furniss, wife Helen, of Barry; Robert Furniss of Griggsville; Gary Furniss, wife Carla, of Barry; and John Furniss, wife Bonnie, of Fowler, Illinois. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters - Dorothy Miller of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Pearl Coultas of Quincy and 1 brother, Clifford Brown of Quincy. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters - Gladys Mellon, Faye Huddleston and Leona Mellon, and 3 brothers - Elmer Brown, David Brown and Harold Brown and 1 daughter-in-law, Carmen Furniss. Sylvia attended the Barry Baptist Church and she belonged to Hadley Home Extension. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Barry, Illinois.
