Obituary for Wilma Ruth Moore
Mrs. Wilma Ruth Moore, 96, of Quincy, IL, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, IL.
She was born August 25, 1925, in Birmingham, IL, to Moses E. and Ella M. (Johnson) Van Winkle.
She married Lester Moore on July 4, 1942, in Palmyra, MO, and they bought the family farm in Hull, Illinois, which they maintained together for 57 years until his death on May 2, 2000.
In addition to raising the family and working on the farm, Wilma made and sold crafts which was a passion she maintained her whole life. After Lester's passing she volunteered at the Barry Community Care Center and spent time traveling the United States to see various parks and landmarks. She also spent an abundance of time with her family.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Ogle of Quincy and her son, Larry Moore of Centralia, MO. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jason (Sherry) Moore of Centralia, MO, Shelly (Dion) Neisen of Camp Point, Melissa Hopson of Orlando, FL, David Taylor of Saint Louis, MO, Lance (Kellie) Carder of Broome, Australia, and Julie Moore of Paris, MO, as well as 20 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Lola Cunningham, Neva Niffen and Morris Van Winkle, daughters Judith Carder and Marsha Taylor, granddaughter Cherie Janes, and great granddaughter Breanna Jibben.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Private Family services will be Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.
