Obituary for Elmo Burkhardt
Mr. Elmo Burkhardt, 98, of Barry, Illinois, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry. He was born December 24, 1917, in Cerento, Illinois, to Albert & Juanita (Billey) Burkhardt. They preceded him in death. He married Alice McVay on October 12, 1940, in Barry, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 2, 1989. He is survived by several nephews & nieces. In addition to his parents and his wife he is also preceded by 2 brothers, Harold Burkhardt and Albert Burkhardt. Elmo was a W.W. II Army Veteran Staff Sergent and served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Barry United Methodist Church, the El Dara Masonic Lodge and the Shriner's in Kansas City, Missouri. He was also a member of the Barry American Legion Post #222 for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer and has played in nearly every state. He also made 4 foreign golf tours to Scotland, New Zealand, Ireland and Australia. There is no visitation . Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials are suggested to the Barry United Methodist Church or Boy Scout Troop 15. Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry in charge of arrangements.
