Obituary for Emma "Rae" Gerecke
Emma "Rae" Gerecke, age 79, a resident of Meredosia, Illinois, died on August 26, 2017 with her loving family near and under the supportive and caring staff of St. John's Hospital. She was born on February 4, 1938, in New Canton, Illinois, to Elden and Lula (Campbell) Johnston. They preceded her in death. She was the youngest of nine children. She attended grade school in New Canton and later graduated from Pike County High School.
She married Norman P. Gerecke on April 22, 1957, at the home of Rev. Homer Brown in Pittsfield, Illinois, and they recently celebrated their 60th year of marriage. Together they shared many experiences and adventures with seven children and later many grandchildren and great grandchildren in the center of their life.
Mrs. Gerecke retired from EMI Capital Records in 1997 and has been the director of the Meredosia Food Pantry since retirement. Members of the community know Rae best for the many volunteer years and her service work as she planned and coordinated many town festivals and events throughout her years as a community member.
She is survived by her husband, Norman Paul Gerecke of Meredosia, Illinois, and their seven children: Bev (husband Bob Schenebricker) of Springfield, Illinois, Kim (husband Tom McGuire) of Chatham, Illinois, Danny (wife Becky) Gerecke of Lagrange, Texas, Randy (wife Tronya) Gerecke of Meredosia, Illinois, Tracy (wife Felifa) Gerecke of Sumter, South Carolina, Michael (wife Debbie) Gerecke of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Matthew Gerecke of Meredosia, Illinois. She is also survived by 16 treasured and much loved grandchildren and 10 sweet great grandchildren.
She is also survived by one sister, Doris Wallace of New Canton, Illinois and one brother, Francis Johnston, of Roscoe, Illinois. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers, Jack, Joe, Paul, Roy, and Junior Johnston, one sister, Helen Slater, and one son in law, Timothy Sepich (wife Kim).
A service to celebrate the life of Emma Rae Gerecke will be held at 2PM Saturday, September 2 at the Community Church of Christ in New Canton, Illinois, with visitation 1-2PM prior to the service. A fellowship meal will be shared following the celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meredosia Food Pantry, P.O. Box 41, Meredosia, Illinois 62665. Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
