Obituary for Lester L. Stolte
There he goes, off on the next adventure!
On 05 September 2021, Lester L. Stolte, 92, passed away at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, and set off to meet up with family and friends who have passed before him. He always loved a new adventure.
Lester's life began 20 April 1929 at Spencer Switch, outside Hull, IL, along with his twin brother Leslie. Born to Russell Roman and Mary Esther (Wilson) Stolte.
He grew up on a farm west of Kinderhook, IL, with his 5 siblings.
After graduation from Kinderhook High School class of 1947, he met Sybil Earnest from Barry, IL. They were married in Barry at the Methodist Church on 20 October 1950.
Lester joined the U.S. Navy serving 4 years on the USS Palau aircraft carrier.
After his service, they lived in Kinderhook, Iowa and settled in Barry, raising their three children there.
Lester was a people person, he never knew a stranger, so being a salesman was a great job for him. He retired after 28 years as an agent for the Prudential Insurance Company.
In their retirement Sybil and Lester enjoyed many years camping and traveling. They met and friended people from all over the country.
Lester was a jack of all trades, never afraid to try something new. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and later he discovered he had a knack for wood carving. He always loved a good card game and board games with the grandchildren.
Lester was a member of the American Legion Post #222 in Barry, the Barry Masonic Lodge and volunteer cook for the Apple Dumplin' Inn at the Barry Apple Festival for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Besides his wife Sybil, Lester is survived by daughters Lynn (Philip) Schuchman of Kansas City, MO, Kathy (Greg) Snyder of Palmyra, MO, son David (Trista) Stolte of Barry, IL, grandchildren Cassandra Schuchman, Philip (Kim Foster) Schuchman, Carrie Snyder, Katie Snyder, Brett Snyder (Erin Hedges), Sarah (Frerking) Arnold, Sally Stolte, Stacy (Tony) McMullen, Serena (Thomas) Hochgraber, Trent Mountain (Brooke Roberts), and Cami (Dan) Weinkauf, great grandchildren Virginia Woods, Dakota and Kason Snyder, Sadie Arnold, Rachel and Alexis McMullen, Mia and Macie Brown, Meyer Hochgraber, and Finley and Roman Weinkauf.
Also survived by his sister, Marilyn Stolte Speckhart of Quincy, IL, sister-in-law June Stolte and brother-in-law Harry Koeller, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Otis and Edith (Cunningham) Earnest, brothers Donald and Leslie, his sisters Dorothy Koeller and Doris Weiss, brother-in-law's Howard Weiss, Ron Sturtevant and Raymond Speckhart, sister-in-law's Mary Darline (Claus) and Janet (Burkett), also his twin infant granddaughters Mallory and Kayla Stolte.
