Obituary for Maurice Vinton Wagy
Mr. Maurice Vinton Wagy, 95, a Quincy resident, formerly of
Barry, Illinois, died on July 5, 2018, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
Born at Plainville, Illinois, on July 23, 1922, son of Ellis E. and Lillian P. Barkley Wagy.
He married Harriet Caroline Hadsell on December 25, 1942 and married Mary Allen Rodriguez on August 3, 1974, and she survives in Quincy, Illinois.
He is survived by 1 son Harry Gene Wagy, (wife Dixie), of Quincy, Illinois; 2 stepsons, Norman J. Rodriguez, (wife Anita), of Quincy, Illinois; and Bradford J. Rodriguez, (wife Wendy), of Toronto, Canada; 2 grandchildren, Candria Elsa Thornton and Richard Jamison Wagy; 4 step grandchildren, Shane, Sabrina, Kiira and Kayley Rodriguez; 4 great grandchildren, Alexandra Wainman, (husband Dillon), Gabrielle Leigh Moore, Baylee Thornton Perryman, US Navy, (husband Willie), and Derick W.J. Thornton; and 1 great great grandson Connor Reid Wainman.
He graduated from Barry Community High School in 1941 and entered Military service on April 21, 1943, at St. Louis, Missouri. Maurice served under General George Patton in the European theatre. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for combat duty including the historical "Battle of the Bulge". Honorably discharged on January 23, 1946, he was a continuous member of the Barry American Legion Post #222 since 1946 and served as Post Commander two years, also a VFW member. Maurice operated a business in Barry from 1953-1971. He worked as an Auditor for the
Illinois Secretary of State, 1971-1983 and retired on June 30, 1983.
Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry.
Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry.
