Obituary for Mrs. Betty Lou Kendall
Mrs. Betty Lou Kendall, 88, of Barry, passed away at 8:58 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, in Kendrid Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. She was born September 12, 1923, on the family farm near El Dara, Illinois, to Paul Edward & Reoreta (Taylor) Dolbeare. They preceded her in death. She married Earl L. "Chick" Kendall on January 16, 1945, in Barry, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2006. She is survived by 1 son, Bruce Kendall & wife Jean of Barry, Illinois. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Ann Yaeger of Pittsfield, Illinois and Maxine Brunenn of Barry, Illinois, as well as nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 son Larry Kendall, 2 brothers Billy & Edward Dolbeare and 2 sisters Mary Hoskin and Patsy Dolbeare. Betty attended Bethel Country School near El Dara, Pittsfield High School and later her last year at New Canton High School. She had worked many places, among them, Burlington Arsenal, Joliet Arsenal, Brown Shoe Co. and her last employment was with K & E Market in Barry. She also spent 18 years as a co-pilot with her husband Chick who drove semis for Gully Transportation. When her daughter-in-law Alice passed away she took over the raising of her two children ages 12 & 14. She took great pride in their rearing and considered it one of her proudest accomplishments. In 2002 she was honored to receive the Barry Apple Festival Golden Apple Citizens Award. Betty was a member of the Barry American Legion Auxillary and she enjoyed serving dinners on election day with her sisters and other volunteers in El Dara as a fund raiser for Taylor-Martin Cemetery where she also served as a board member. She looked forward to the Pike County Fall Color Drive where she was known for selling numerous items. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials are suggested to the Taylor-Martin Cemetery.
