Norman Paul Gerecke (1929 - 2021)
Korean War Army Veteran
Norman Gerecke, (92), of Meredosia and later a resident of Quincy, IL, passed away December 30, 2021,
with his family near and under the supportive care of the loving staff of Schaper B, Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
Norm was born on August 21, 1929, in Kampsville, IL, the son of Karl J. and Wilhemina "Minnie" Schumann Gerecke.
He married Emma Rae Johnston on April 22, 1957, in Pittsfield, IL, and she preceded him in death on August 26, 2017.
At the center of their life, together Norm and Rae shared many memories, experiences, and adventures with their
seven children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Norm retired from the U.S. Corps of engineers at LaGrange Lock and Dam in January 1988 after 40 years of service.
Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard at the Ameren CIPS plant in Meredosia for several years. Members
of the community know Norm best for his warm smile, quick-witted sense of humor, talented carpentry work, and dedication to
his family.
Norm is survived by seven children: Bev (Bob Schenebricker) of Springfield, IL, Kim (Tom McGuire) of Chatham, IL, Danny (Becky) Gerecke of LaGrange, TX, Randy (Tronya) Gerecke of Meredosia, IL, Tracy (Felisa) Gerecke of Sumter, SC, Michael (Debbie) Gerecke of Murfreesboro, TN, and Matthew Gerecke of Chatham, IL, 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Rodgers, Eva Rosa, Anna "Helen" Oettle, three brothers, Harry, Roy, Marvin "Bud" Gerecke, and one son-in-law, Timothy Sepich (Kim).
A gathering for the family and friends, to celebrate the life of Norman Paul Gerecke, will be scheduled at a later date.
