Mrs. Allensworth attended New Canton High School. She spent most of her married life on a farm where she and her husband reared four children. She enjoyed having a large garden from which she did a lot of canning and freezing, as well as enjoying the many flowers that she had planted. During her children's school years, she volunteered for many school events and functions. She, along with two other ladies, was very instrumental in implementing a hot lunch program by making soup and sandwiches for the New Canton Grade School students. Mrs. Allensworth also was a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star of New Canton, Illinois where she held many offices through the years and traveled throughout the state visiting other orders as a guest officer. After her husband's death, she moved into New Canton and opened a cafe which she operated for several years. After her retirement, Mrs. Allensworth was quite active doing volunteer service with RVSP and made over 100 baby quilts for both Quanada in Quincy, Ill. and for St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Ill. for AIDS affected babies. In addition to her love of quilting and other hand sewing, she really enjoyed playing cards, games (Scrabble being her favorite) and crossword puzzles. Her greatest pleasure though was her family and being available to help with the little ones. She quickly became acquainted with each grandchild and truly loved each one of them. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Hannibal, Missouri and also attended the Maranatha Church in New Canton, Ill. Mrs. Allensworth, who devoted herself to her family, was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all of her family.
