Obituary for Wilburn E. Welch
Mr. Wilburn E. Welch, 79, of Barry, Illinois, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. He was born November 3, 1934, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Dr. Paul & Frances (Dunn) Welch. They preceded him in death. He married Nicole E. Kibler on February 15, 1958, in Peoria, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2002. He is survived by 3 sons - Mark & wife Lisa K. Welch of Barry; Craig & wife Lisa C. Welch of Barry; and Eric & wife Anna Welch of Barry. He is also survived by 3 grandsons - Kyle Mooney of Macomb, Illinois; Phillip Welch, wife Heidi, of Grand Canyon, Arizona; and Paul Welch of Springfield, Illinois; 3 granddaughters - Erica Welch of Mt. Sterling, Illinois; Emily Barnett, husband Jonathan, of Springfield, Illinois; and Dominique Welch of Barry, Illinois; 2 great granddaughters: Odette Welch of Grand Canyon, Arizona and Madeline Welch of Springfield, Illinois; 1 great grandson, Sawyer Welch of Grand Canyon, Arizona; 1 sister, Carolyn Close of Peoria, Illinois; 1 brother, James Close, wife Phyliss, of Peoria, Illinois; 1 sister-in-law, Brigitte Helzer, husband John, of Winooski, Vermont; 3 nieces and 2 nephews. Wilburn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pittsfield, Illinois. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a time keeper for 41 years. He served as a combat engineer in the U. S. Army for 6 years in the 116th at Ft. Lewis and the 9899th Engineer Unit in Peoria. He was a member of the Barry American Legion Post 222 and the Catholic War Veteans. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry with a Rosary service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pittsfield, Illinois. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials are suggested to the Barry American Legion Post 222.
